10 Goalkeepers with The Most Clean Sheets in History!

As we all know, goalkeepers are one of the most critical aspects of winning games and strategically planning. It is highly amusing to see them defend goals and the entire structure of the team and watch goalkeepers achieve clean sheets. 

In reality, attackers are usually the spotlight holder during games. However, the center stage has recently focused on defenders and goalkeepers and the way they perform. That is obviously because as good as goals concede to a win, so does a well-refined goalkeeper and the way they play and win tournaments.

10. Peter Schmeichel

Peter Schmeichel has come to be known as one of the most culminating goalkeepers in the Premier League. He has kept 128 clean sheets where he made over 310 appearances in the Premier League for Manchester City especially and others such as Red Devils and Aston Villa. 

Peter is fascinatingly known to be a five-time Premier League winner. In all of Schmeichel’s seven iconic seasons with Manchester United, most of his clean sheets were when he scored 21 clean sheets in 33 games where he was coming in 93/94. 

In Manchester city, Petr managed to keep his clean sheet for over two years, where that was his last season of his Premier League. 

9. Tim Howard

Tom Howard played a huge role in almost 300 Premier League tournaments. He played for two different clubs during one of his 13-season off plays in the game. Tom managed to keep over 100 clean sheets.

This revolutionary moment occurred in his long stint at Everton. He also managed to keep on a minimum, often clean sheets where his best was during the 2007-2008 championship. 

His clean sheet record is 33.03%. This statistic shows that he kept a clean sheet during one of the six games he appeared in. However, Tom made 399 league outings and kept his final clean sheet during a competition against Norwich City. 

8. Brad Friedel

Brad Friedel managed to keep 132 clean sheets in the Premier League game. That is his title due to the fact that he played for four different clubs, 450 games. For nearly three decades, Friedel was the only goalkeeper to hold a clean sheet in the Premier League for that long.

7. Igor Akinfeev

Igor Akinfeev playing for CSKA since 2003. And throughout the years he appeared in more than 500 matches and kept 300+ clean sheets. However, he kept his first-ever clean sheets in the Champions League. In every game he has played in Europe’s premier tournament, Igor Akinfeev has conceded at least one goal.

6. Manuel Neuer

Manuel Neuer has a 45% better performance than most other goalkeepers. For every 90 minutes that Manuel Neuer is on the field, on average 0.9 goals. Their current Clean Sheets ratio is an impressive 33%. 

Manuel has also managed to keep out of the 21 matches in Bundesliga, 7 clean sheets. Manuel Neuer was also known as the ‘Goalkeeper of the Year, which isn’t surprising as he didn’t allow the other defending team to score a goal on a rounding 408 occasions.

5. David Seaman

David Seaman is best known for his time in Arsenal with a clean sheet of 138 and in Manchester City with a clean sheet of 3. And also associated with being England’s best goalkeeper, where he won a whole 75 clean sheets with several appearances right after. With a total of Seaman has 141 clean sheets in his 344 appearances. 

4. Edwin van der Sar

Edwin van der Sar, a Dutch goalkeeper, he is known to be a four-time premier league winner where he has managed to have kept a clean sheet of over 132 with two other different clubs. For the competition in Manchester United, Van der Sar made over 313 appearances and held a total of 132 clean sheets. 

Van Der Sar also had a consecutive 14 clean sheets during his six-season playoff at Old Trafford. In Man Utd, he even kept over 100 clean sheets to conquer all four league trophies.

He has 49 clean sheets in the Champions League, which he won with Ajax in 1995 before joining Manchester United. In Edwin’s career, he is the only goalie to have conquered the competition with two separate clubs. 

3. Gianluigi Buffon

Gianluigi Buffon is a well-known European soccer icon who goes by title to be known as one of the leading goalkeepers to exist. In the Champions League for Juventus, Buffon has managed to keep a record of 61 clean sheets. Gianluigi has secured the position to make it to the final three times but hasn’t been able to keep the clean sheet. 

2. Iker Casillas

Iker Casillas has come to be known as the legendary soccer goalkeeper in Spain. This title was given due to Iker winning everything there is to win and gain with Real Madrid. Iker has managed to keep an outstanding record of 58 clean sheets in the Champions League. Overall he has 439 clean sheets, which made him one of the greatest goalkeepers in soccer history.

1. Petr Cech

Petr Cech has very much secured the prestigious position as the finest goalkeeper in the Premier League. For three different clubs, Petr has kept a total of 47 clean sheets that were held in the Champions League, but the part where Petr stood out was in the Premier League with the record of his 202 clean sheets. There is a reason why Petr is known to have an unbeatable record of having the cleanest sheet. 

For both the teams Chelsea and Arsenal, in Peter’s 443 Premier League game, he concurred to have a clean sheet in almost every other match. 

Peter has also achieved a huge amount of trophies; three EFL Cups, four Premier League titles, five FA Cups, and the UEFA Super Cup.
